Dr Avramov – winner of the competition "Smile of the Year" 2016
For the ninth consecutive year the newspaper “Dental Tribune” gave the most prestigious awards for dentists and dental technicians in the competition “Smile of the Year” at a ceremony in Sofia Life Club. An international jury of world authorities evaluated the participants and announced the winners in the different categories.
Dr Krasimir Avramov, in collaboration with Dr Mila Stoyanova and the dental technician Svetoslav Ivanov, was awarded with a statue of “Smile of the Year” in the category “Composite Restorations”. The case presented by them showed excellent planning, perfect execution and great final result.
Let us tell you more about the case and their teamwork.
“The patient wanted to arrange her crooked teeth, but besides the orthodontic problem there was also enamel wear. We planed the orthodontic treatment to create space for further building. We fulfilled her desire to have a wonderful smile. I am very happy and proud that our smile was awarded such a prize. This is a well-deserved award. With Dr Avramov the teamwork is a pleasure and things get easier.” – says Dr Stoyanova.
To the question “Is there often a cooperation between two dentists?” she responds with a smile:
“As a dentist who only works in the field of orthodontics, I almost always have to work in a team. Problems often require the intervention of specialists from different fields. Sometimes the orthodontic treatment is leading, other times it is only a part of the treatment. When people in the team speak one language and plan their work well, things get easy and the final result is very good.”
For Dr Avramov this is the first participation in the competition. He participates in two categories, taking second place for “Complex Aesthetic Restoration” and the category “Composite Restorations” brings him a first prize. The case itself had two stages. First, Dr Stoyanova arranged the teeth of the patient in beautiful straight rows, while correcting the bite. Second, Dr Avramov built the worn teeth by restoring their normal shape to function properly. Dr Avramov explains what tooth building is:
“When there is tooth wear, you first need to determine how much it is and how it should be restored. In this case, the dental technician built the new tooth shape on the gypsum patterns of the patient, and I used these patterns as guides to build the teeth directly in the mouth with a composite. This technique of direct building is known as bonding. The secret of this clinical case is in the good planning, which makes the building of the worn teeth easy and with a predictable result.”
To the question “What do you want in the future?” Dr Avramov says:
I wish myself mostly health. Everything else can be achieved with desire and tenacity.
